Dearest darling:

Here I am at the old camping grounds and it is hot as usual. I got here at 4 A.M. - 3 [AM]camp time after being on the train from 6:30 p.m. What a ride. Stops were made at everything from an outhouse to a station. Did get to sleep coming out but the positions I were in can't be described. I couldn't write so much there in Savannah because the pen wasn't any good. The train didn't leave H'burg [Harrisburg, PA] until 3:15 and we got to Wash. At 6:15. U.[ncle] Paul missed and had me paged over the loudspeaker. Some stuff, aren't I? I met him and how [sic: had] dinner with a Mr. Wallace and a secretary in the Gateway Restaurant. Aunt Betty had a chicken dinner and apple pie all ready for me for I had 21/2 hours layover, but the time kept me from going out. Caught the 7:30 champion [Atlantic Coast Line: The Tamiami Champion (East Coast)] and had a nice ride down to Savannah arriving there at 7:45 A.M. A couple and I went into town and had breakfast and then we walked around awhile and then I called Witmer. Then we went to a movie and then ate again. Then I walked down to the plant where I met Witmer and a [19]'15 grad. We had quite a bull session about Wmson [Williamson Trade School] and Wingard, Witmer's roommate at school was there several days before. Both of them are married and Wit. has a small boy. Then walked to the station and waited around for the train. Four of us took a taxi out to camp and I was moved to another barricks [sic: barracks] while I was home and some

fellow who was going on duty just as I got there left me use [of] his blankets and I slept until 10. Then I got my bedding and had to dig around for my bags. Then I shaved and showered and came over for mail. There's what I got. 3 letters from you; Licky; one from L*** Miller and one from his wife; one from Tor; one from Andy - dated Aug 15; one from Blanton; one from Danny; one from Pappy; cards from Bigham; Rev. Ness; Marie Tr***ler, and two papers. Not bad. I'll get you some more Camels [cigarettes] this week and keep you supplied. We didn't get any dancing done, but we did have so much fun didn't we. The air which I carry in the tires is 35 lbs. I'm reading your three letters and picking out diff. things to comment on. Saw some of the old gang and the[y] gave me a rumor - so don't pass it on until it is definite. It's just a rumor so don't worry about it. That around the 15 of Sept. those fellows in pre-flight and on down the line (meaning us) will be given the choice of being returned to civilian status and given over to the draft board to be called again or to remain in as a cadet and continue on our training with the catch that we have to remain in A.C. [i.e., Army Air Corp] for three years. It makes you wonder what to do. 3 yrs is a long time and now that I'm 26 soon, it may be that I could get a defense job and be held up from being taken because of my age. I'm not going to worry about it, but if it does come to that you and I will decide not just me. We are as one now and you always seem to know solutions for such hard problems.

Now some news from the other letters. I won't bother to say anything about Andy because I'm going to answer it after this and sent it along. Tor said with the spirit I have I should succeed. He rec'd 4 letters from Jo the day he wrote to me. She has it bad. He doesn't believe he can play bridge with the language he, like all of us in the service, us used to using.

L*** Miller is now a corporal in an Anti-Aircraft group and was stationed at Long Island, N.Y. at the time but was scheduled to go to N.C. for manuvers. He gets home or did get home nearly every week-end. He was in a yr on the 14th. They now have a son, Ronald L***, May 3. Guess your pappy doesn't have the stuff that these other Wmson guys have. She had a tough time of it but both pulled thru O.K. They were at Hershey when the McF*** twins were there.

Licky wrote Aug. 6. and is working for the International Harvester Co. on Cameron St right off Paxton [St. Harrisburg]. If I had know[n] that I'd dropped in to see him. Guess that cleans them up. Guess that was the only good thing that made it nice to come back - getting so much mail. But I thanked God last night for it all, my being home, having you for a wife, safe journeys, still in U.S., and many more blessings.

Honey, it was so nice being with you again and having you in my arms. Your lips, eyes, hair, all mean so much to me and I adore you more and more every day. It did me so much good to be with you again, and coming back was hard, but

but [sic] I saw that you are capable of taking care of everything and since I had a job waiting for me here to finish, and with you being back of me, puts me in a more determined mood that ever to get thru just for you. I want to be a hubby which you will be proud of regardless of where we go. I'll try to get rid of some of those nasty habits because it's for my own good and you wish me to. I love you and just live for the day whenI can be with you for always.

Keep sweet, honey, and I'll keep plugging.
All yours always,
Your wover hubby, Les

Will you send the pictures on to me concerning me and the camp shots. And also the negatives. I believe I can get better service here and any you want made, leave me know. I'll get some for Andy, so don't bother.
_____ Am enclosing Andy's letter in another letter.
P.S. "____"____"____"____" this [letter]. Just change my mind
